Kate’s weight loss journey is very inspiring. She went from being unhealthy and overweight, feeling anxious and sad about her life, to a real bombshell who’s confident and loves to share her weight loss journey with others. She loves inspiring other people to change their bodies and be more confident in their bodies, and today she’s sharing her weight loss journey with us.
I had a big weight loss in 2013 when I lost 55 kilos all together.
In 2012, I had a new job in retail that was very physically demanding. At that time in my life, I felt very negative and unhappy with every aspect of my life. During this time, I also moved in with my partner, it was first time living away from my parents and I was feeling anxious. The first week I’ve lost my appetite and felt sick, so I didn’t eat much.
My starting weight at 21/22 was 120 kilos, and after that week, I’ve weighed myself, and I was 7 kilos down.
It was life-changing, and then I had this realization that if I continue eating small portions that I would be able to control what I’m eating easier and lose even more weight.
The idea to cut out fast food and junk food in general kind of came naturally at the same time. I was a huge fast food eater before, but I didn’t crave it as much anymore once I saw the results.
So, in my first few months of weight loss journey, it was all about food.
I’ve reduced my portion sizes, started counting calories, and that’s how it started.
I can’t say I had this breakthrough like many people do when I wake up one day and decide that they need to change, it happened very gradually for me. It was little things that I’ve done every day that added to something big and changed my life.
After a couple of months, I started adding exercise into my routine.
At first, I just decided to start going to the gym, and I started doing cardio because that was something I was comfortable with.
I did a treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical machine, a lot of cross trainer and other similar things. I would go in for an hour, an hour and a half, and I would put my headphones in and did it that way.
However, after a while, it got boring for me, there was no variety, and while I enjoyed seeing progress and results, it just wasn’t cutting it anymore. So, I did some group classes as well, to add some variety into my gym routine. And then my weight loss started to accelerate more.
Once I combined smaller portions and calorie counting with exercising my body, weight loss was happening so much quicker for me.
I kept it up like that for about 6-7 months or so and lost 40 kilos in that time.
After about seven months, my brother started CrossFit, and he got me into CrossFit as well. And that was a turning point for me to start building muscle. I loved CrossFit and high-intensity exercises that build muscle. I get bored with only weight lifting in the gym.
Kate is asked about what helped her be consistent with her weight loss and what her motivation was.
When I started this weight loss journey, I never thought that I would get to 65 kilos, which was my lowest weight.
So, I started setting myself small milestones like 110, 100, 90, 80, etc.
65 kilos felt so unachievable, so I had to break it down into smaller, easier to achieve goals. And then every time I would hit a milestone, I would think that if I can get to this weight, I can get to lower wight as well.
When people ask me how they can lose weight or fat, my answer to them is simply eating less and moving more. To loose fat, you need to be in a caloric deficit, which means you need to be burning more calories than you consume in a day.
Another thing that people always ask Kate is her excess skin left after a drastic weight loss. She’s very confident in her skin and doesn’t think she will be getting it removed anytime soon.
A lot of people ask me whether I’m considering having my excess skin removed like many people do after drastic weight loss, and I decided not to do it now.
I know I want to show off my body now as I’ve worked hard for it, but I know that I will want kids in the future, so if I do it now, it’ll be a waste.
I’m happier to be this size with excess skin than the size I’ve been before.
People also wonder about how her life and her personality changed after losing that much weight, and Kate says that a lot of things are still the same.
A lot of people ask me how my life changed when I lost this weight and honestly, not much.
I feel so much more confident about myself now, and I feel like I have a lot more zest to life now that I have this weight loss story.
But I’m still the same person, I have the same personality, and I’m still happy. I’m just way more healthy now.
